A noble initiative founded by a group of individuals who once walked the same corridors in school at Dharmapuri , now settled in different parts of India and across the world as successful home makers, entrepreneurs, doctors and Information technology professionals. United by the childhood memories of our shared journey, we have come together with a singular vision:

To uplift the lives of the underprivileged, especially those who strive for education despite numerous challenges.

Our Objective

Our Association is committed to supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Tamil Nadu, particularly those who have lost a parent or those whose parents are daily wage earners. In the form of scholarships and educational resources "NELLIKANI WELFARE ASSOCIATION, Dharmapuri" aims to provide these children with the opportunity to pursue their academic dreams and create a brighter future for themselves and their families.

What is ‘Nellikani’?

The spirit of our mission is guided by the legend of Adhiyaman Neduman Anji, a king who once ruled from the capital city ‘Thagadur’ (present day Dharmapuri). The king Adhiyaman, one of the 7 great patrons of arts and literature in ancient Tamilnadu, gifted a nellikani ( a rare gooseberry that gives long life, free of diseases) to Avvaiyar, a revered Sangam poet, symbolizing his generosity and the importance given to literature in ancient times.

Our Association draws inspiration from ancient Tamil literature, which has long emphasized the value of knowledge and education in transforming society. As the celebrated Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar wrote in the Thirukkural:

கேடில் விழுச்செல்வம் கல்வி யொருவற்கு

மாடல்ல மற்றை யவை. (Thirukkural 400)

" Education is the only imperishable wealth. No other wealth possessed by a person can be greater than the wealth of education”.This timeless wisdom resonates deeply with the core values of "NELLIKANI WELFARE ASSOCIATION, Dharmapuri", as we believe that education is the most powerful tool to break the chains of poverty and ignorance."NELLIKANI WELFARE ASSOCIATION, Dharmapuri" is not just an Association—it is a movement, rooted in the ideals of compassion, education, and collective responsibility. Our mission is to make a lasting impact on the lives of those who need it the most, guided by the timeless wisdom of our ancestors.

Nellikani Welfare Association, Dharmapuri was initiated on April 15th, 2021.

Who Can Apply?

A candidate who can fulfil any of the following eligibility criteria:

Any School Or College Student

From an underprivileged family background

Who has a single parent or no parents

From any Government Institution

Student with very good academic record but from poor financial background

Nellikani Welfare Association, Dharmapuri, is a compassionate initiative dedicated to empowering underprivileged students through education. Inspired by Tamil heritage and the spirit of giving, we believe that education is the greatest wealth. Established in 2021, we strive to create brighter futures by supporting Young ones dreams.
